Should the league guarantee that teams that make the playoffs make their money back (not counting league fees / buyouts). Once those prize values are attributed, the rest of the prize pool will be divided as per usual.
- Making the playoffs would guarantee a minimum of $55 to each team
- If the amount the team would get is in excess of $55, then the calculated amount would be used.
Should other prizes be guaranteed in a similar way? i.e. Commissioner’s Cup and/or Most Improved Team
Good idea - this should go to an owner vote. Maybe we should also move to a draft lottery to eliminate the race for last.
ReplyDeleteIf everyone else is in agreement. Inflation does happen. you make the playoffs you should win your money back.
ReplyDeleteThis should be a no-brainer. $55 for a first round exit, guaranteed. The Commish's Cup and Most Improved should also be standardized...I dunno $50 and $35?
ReplyDeleteAgree with the $55 minimum for a 1st round playoff exit. Would hopefully make it more desirous to still make a run for that last playoff spot.
ReplyDeleteA set $50 for Commissioner Cup is fine.
I would go $25 for Most Improved.
Similar to Andrew's idea.
ReplyDeleteFlat rate $55 for making the playoffs.
$50 for Commissioner Cup
$25 for most improved
But more radically, how about flat rates for the other rounds of the playoffs too?
$100 for making the semi's
$200 for losing in the final
Rest of the cash goes to the winner.
Last year this would have resulted in the winner (Sidney Spit) taking home $346.50; slightly less than the actuals winnings of $367.74. However if we all tack on $10 or $20 each, that would increase to ~$500 to ~$650, and well, who wouldn't want to win it all for a prize pot like that?
No prize money if you don't make the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteI'd even be in favour of reducing the $55 minimum a bit so that the better teams get a bit more. The amounts for the semi's and finals should be proportional between the minimum and maximum prize I think.
