Should the FP draft be moved up and done through email instead of its typical placement on Bidding Day?

- Best way to accomplish this:
- Email?
- Via Twitter?
- Google Group?
- How long would an owner have to make a selection when it is his turn?
Tough one - because all it takes is for one owner to chew up a few days for bona fide reasons and the whole schedule is blown.
ReplyDeleteAn egg timer on Bid Day would work.
I believe this is everyone's favorite part of the day hands down. To remove it from bidding day would lose some of the fun and "my god you took him 5th overall?!?! isn't he dead!"
ReplyDeleteIan is correct, but...in an effort to speed up draft day, which is long, long, long....what about only the first round remotely?
ReplyDeleteThe first round is much less strategy. As I put it to Ian in a chat, "Drive for show, putt for dough." The first round is your tee off. Any asshole can pick an NHL 1st round draft pick at a position that they want more. The real winning picks are the 2nd and 3rd picks. Just ask the Detroit Red Wings. We can then convene on draft day for the 2nd and 3rd prepared to unearth our little diamonds and we'll have saved some time.
To be honest though, the first round is also likely the swiftest...whatever. I'm in favour of researching the idea. (BoG!)

ReplyDeleteI like it on draft day for the reasons Rob mentioned. It is a lot of fun doing it live.
ReplyDeleteI don't recall it taking that long. Usually getting everyone online and any rule discussions eat up the majority of the morning.
People should just be better prepared. I got a list of 74 already, and I'm just on my first source. Two more to go. Then the pearing down to the top 48 begins.
I agree with other people that doing this draft on Bidding Day is a good idea.
ReplyDeleteHowever teams should be on the clock with their selections. Perhaps 2 minutes per selection max? That would take our draft out to about 100ish minutes.
For teams that don't make their pick by the time the clock runs out, you forfeit your pick position and your pick goes to the end of the round.
I like the 2 minute rule... could even be 3 minutes and I'd be ok with that too. IMHO it MUST stay with bidding day though.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy it on bidding day as well, and it hasn't take that long over the last couple of years as more and more of us are actually prepared before hand!
